Today's Story Highlights

Can Microsoft Keep Its Word?
A Toronto company aptly named "i4i" is getting its revenge on Microsoft
by kicking it square in the monkeymaker. i4i has sued Redmond, claiming
that Microsoft Word infringes on its patents. Judge Leonard Davis of the
U.S. District Court for Eastern Texas -- where else? -- has given
Microsoft two months to halt sales of the offending software.

E-Commerce With an Accent on Luxury
There is nothing quite like the experience of shopping at a luxury
retailer. The consumer is immediately immersed in the luxury experience:
highly branded and emotive décor and product displays, personal and
bespoke service, champagne ... and anything else the consumer may
desire. It's undeniable that these factors contribute to a scenario that
transcends a simple shopping transaction.

KnowledgeTree Takes Root in New ECM Markets
In 2004, KnowledgeTree CEO Daniel Chalef had no idea his interest in
developing an open source document management product would thrust his
South African company into prominence. That's the time a government
agency there approached him to help the Medical Research Council retain
control of its documents and track shared access. That South African
council is an agency much like the U.S. NIH.

On2 Shareholders Sue Board for Selling to Google on the Cheap
Video software firm On2 Technologies said it will fight legal challenges
to its planned acquisition by Google. The New York-based company agreed
last week to a takeover by Mountain View, Calif.-based Google in a deal
valued at about $106 million, with shareholders receiving 60 cents worth
of Google shares for each share of On2 stock.

Tarmac Torment Renews Call for Passenger Bill of Rights
The overnight stranding of 47 airline passengers on an airport tarmac in
Minnesota has grabbed the attention of the Obama administration and
Congress. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said the department's
general counsel is investigating whether any laws were violated during
the incident.
