The SMB Case for Sending Security Skyward (32:22 minutes)
As more devices -- especially mobile devices -- become part of a
business's network, they create more vectors for attack, and tightening
security becomes increasingly difficult. For some companies, cloud-based
security solutions may be easier to administer, more convenient and less
costly.

Today's Story Highlights
Piracy, Open Source and the Shrinking Space Between
There's a rumor that honor exists among thieves, but outside of Robin
Hood, no one considers them a bunch of do-gooders. Yet there may be a
bright side to their shadowy work, at least in terms of enterprise
software. It could very well be that they will drive the prices down.

If You Build a Branded Online Community, Will Customers Come?
One of the key benefits of branded online communities relates to the
idea of treating customers as cocreators or codevelopers. With the
advent of social networking, companies can further automate and expand
their efforts to involve customers in the innovation process. For most
companies, innovation is the only sustainable competitive advantage.

Comcast Q2 Growth Slumps but Profit Jumps
Comcast, the nation's biggest cable TV systems operator, posted a 53
percent increase in second-quarter profit on Thursday, helped by higher
prices and increased customer spending on video and Internet services.
However, subscriber growth markedly slowed as the recession's grip
remained tight. Comcast said it hasn't seen much sign of an economic
rebound, although July fared better than the second quarter.

Google Turns Off Radio Ad Business
Google has found a buyer for a radio advertising business it has
abandoned as part of efforts to cut costs and jettison underperforming
operations. WideOrbit, a privately held company that makes software for
the broadcast TV and radio industries, said Wednesday it has agreed to
buy Google's technology for automating radio ad placement.

Lenovo Posts Loss, Cites Weak Commercial Demand
Lenovo, the world's fourth-largest personal computer maker, reported a
US$16 million quarterly loss Thursday and said it faces pressure from
weak global demand and intense competition. The loss for the three
months ending June 30, equal to 0.18 cents per share, compared with a
$110 million profit a year earlier.

Yahoo Leaves Door Open for Fast Getaway
More details about the Yahoo-Microsoft Internet search agreement have
been revealed in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. Some of
the details come as little surprise -- namely, that Microsoft will be
hiring Yahoo employees, specifically 400, as part of the proposed
partnership.
