Today's Story Highlights

The SMB Case for Sending Security Skyward
How can we automate and improve the way PC security is delivered as a
service? The use of cloud-based anti-virus and security protection
services is on the rise, and small to medium-size businesses can find
great value in the software-as-a-service approach to manage PC support.
Let's also examine how the use of Internet-delivered security provides a
strong business opportunity for resellers and channel providers.

Managing Content Instead of Data: Q&A With SpringCM CEO Dan Carmel
There are always niche vendors developing new applications around
functionality that doesn't quite fit into a defined software category.
When the analyst community takes note -- and then decides to give the
category a name -- a bona fide trend is established. That is happening
to SpringCM, a SaaS provider that helps companies manage their processes
around content rather than data.

Google Takes Low-Tech Road in Pushing Its Own Business Apps
Google is so well known that it has become a synonym for search, making
advertising unnecessary. Getting businesses to buy Google's online suite
of office applications requires a little more elbow grease and marketing
muscle. In a rare commercial campaign, Google is leasing billboards
along major highways in four cities this month to promote a bundle of
business applications that sells for $50 per worker annually.

The Video Game Industry's Summertime Blues
Kathleen Byrnes and Justin Choi, a married couple attending medical
school at Tulane University, say $40 is just too much to fork over for a
Nintendo Wii game they might not enjoy. They haven't bought one since
last fall, when they picked up "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed." Since
then? "Nothing really interesting came out," said Byrnes, 23.

Ballmer Gives Analysts a Little of the Old Soft Shoe
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is trying to improve the bad feeling Yahoo
investors have about the companies' search-advertising partnership.
Yahoo's shares plummeted 12 percent Wednesday after the deal was
announced, and they continued dropping Thursday, ending 4 percent lower
at $14.60. Shares slipped another 2 percent on Friday, closing at
$14.32. Ballmer said he doesn't understand why.

Jury Takes Up Penalty Question in Grad Student's P2P Trial
Joel Tenenbaum's fate was probably already sealed before he went to
trial for the copyright infringement of 30 songs by Nirvana, Green Day
and the Smashing Pumpkins, but the 25-year-old college student made sure
of it on Thursday when he admitted on the stand that he did in fact
download and share the songs.
