| This week in Car Tech | | Wayne Cunningham CNET.com | | Milan Hybrid wins Editors' Choice Ford impressed the heck out of us last year with its new cabin technology, bringing a navigation system together with really useful external information sources such as gas prices and traffic, phone and MP3 player connectivity through Sync, and stellar audio with the THX system in Lincolns. As much as we gave high marks for this gear, the performance tech let us down. Ford's engines were adequate, but not exactly pushing any envelopes.
The Mercury Milan Hybrid shows Ford's work on the performance side of the equation, which is just being realized this year. The Milan Hybrid, and its identical sibling Fusion Hybrid, uses a gas-electric drive system that works seamlessly, delivering high mileage on the highway, and even higher in the city. And it's a satisfying car to drive, with enough power to safely merge onto the freeway. We awarded the Milan Hybrid an Editors' Choice in the review.
Ford will have some other new performance tech to show later this year, in the form of its new twin-turbo Ecoboost engine in the Lincoln MKS and the Taurus SHO, two cars we are looking forward to getting our hands on.
