Message From Our Sponsor
When a high-end apparel manufacturer wanted an e-commerce
presence that was easy for merchandisers to manage,
they turned to ATG. Online sales have grown consistently;
more than tripling in their first year.
Read the ATG Case Study to see how.

The Mainframe Bridge to the Cloud (35:00 minutes)
How do developments in mainframe technology and automation relate to
cloud computing? Cloud computing is in a very basic sense virtualizing
resources within the data center. As enterprises seek to gain data
center efficiency, they're looking at bringing in a measure of
virtualization, optimizing operations in ways similar to what mainframes
have done for years.

Today's Story Highlights

Monetizing the Cloud 101: The Proof Is in the Profit
The traditional model of providing software and services to customers
through locally managed servers and storage is fast becoming obsolete.
It is not only expensive -- the cost of buying and maintaining an ever-
growing cadre of servers alone is prohibitive -- but also
counterproductive.

The Sturm und Drang of iPhone Evolution
The climb in Apple's share prices seems to have leveled as the company's
Worldwide Developers Conference, being held in San Francisco this week,
continues. At the event's keynote presentation, Apple was on a tear,
possibly in a bid to terrify and crush the competition. It introduced
new iPhone hardware and set a June 17 release date for upcoming iPhone
OS 3.0 software.

GM's Demise and the Rise of CRM Culture
Business schools have been discussing General Motor's loss of market
shar for decades already, and the added denouement of the company's
bankruptcy filing will no doubt drive many academic papers for decades
to come. The roots of GM's fall from grace are numerous, and it would be
incorrect to attribute the fall to any single factor.

Craigslist on a Tear as Newspaper Classifieds Wither
Craigslist, one of the Internet's top sites for classified ads, is
thriving while newspapers and other marketing-driven media are reeling
from huge revenue losses, according to a report released Wednesday.
Launched as an e-mail list in 1995, Craigslist's revenue is on pace to
rise 23 percent this year to reach $100 million for the first time.

Struggling US Businesses to Get Help From Crowd-Funding
Kiva.org has spent the past 3 1/2 years raising money on the Internet to
finance destitute entrepreneurs in 44 impoverished countries. Now, in a
sign of the economy's spreading despair, the online microlender is
reaching out to low-income entrepreneurs in the United States.

US Broadband Access Plan Inches Forward
The Federal Communications Commission has closed the first round of
comment on its national broadband plan initiative, a requirement of the
American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009. The FCC must deliver a
completed plan to Congress by February 2010 showing the way to more
widespread broadband adoption nationwide.
