Message From Our Sponsor
When a high-end apparel manufacturer wanted an e-commerce
presence that was easy for merchandisers to manage,
they turned to ATG. Online sales have grown consistently;
more than tripling in their first year.
Read the ATG Case Study to see how.

The Mainframe Bridge to the Cloud (35:00 minutes)
How do developments in mainframe technology and automation relate to
cloud computing? Cloud computing is in a very basic sense virtualizing
resources within the data center. As enterprises seek to gain data
center efficiency, they're looking at bringing in a measure of
virtualization, optimizing operations in ways similar to what mainframes
have done for years.

Today's Story Highlights

Surviving the Downturn Through Social Marketing
Social marketing offers a new way to interact with consumers, but aside
from being another channel, it requires a different mindset to achieve
results. This is Web 2.0, where the consumer is in charge of the message
and will angrily resist big brand pressure and broadcast marketing.
Content needs to have merit to thrive in the social space, so cheesy
slogans are out.

Toiling Away in 'White-Collar Sweatshops' - aka Call Centers
Sarah Betesh's career in customer service began in box office call
centers at venues such as the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia. She
moved on to Tickets.com and Vertical Alliance, at one point becoming a
call center manager. However, in spite of her success, Betesh left her
call center career behind in 2003.

Online Advertising Suffers First Quarterly Loss Since '02
Internet advertising in the United States dropped 5 percent in the first
quarter, marking the marketing medium's first downturn since 2002 when
the Web was still recovering from the dot-com bust. The data released
Friday by the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers
provided another reminder of the widespread pain wrought by the longest
U.S. recession since World War II.

Clear Channel to Widen Online, Mobile Streams
Clear Channel Communications, the nation's largest owner of radio
stations, is ramping up its strategy to stream radio to mobile phones,
computers and other devices. On Monday, Clear Channel was officially
launching an online media player that consolidates access to its roughly
850 radio stations at IHeartRadio.com.

Minnesota Officials Fold in Online Gambling Standoff
Minnesota regulators may have been outplayed when they bet a decades-old
federal law would lend itself to an online gambling crackdown. Following
a lawsuit by the gambling industry, which considers the push a violation
of federal commerce and free-speech protections, state officials said
Monday they'll withdraw a demand that Internet service providers block
access to hundreds of sites.

Pre Buzz Generates Some Modest Swarms at Launch
It applies to sports and smartphones: If you're an underdog, you will
always be compared to the reigning champs until you knock them off their
pedestal. The mission, then, for Palm during Saturday's retail launch of
its Pre smartphone was relatively simple: Get as close as possible to an
iPhone-style score, and don't commit any turnovers.
