Message From Our Sponsor
When a high-end apparel manufacturer wanted an e-commerce
presence that was easy for merchandisers to manage,
they turned to ATG. Online sales have grown consistently;
more than tripling in their first year.
Read the ATG Case Study to see how.

Podcast
Mobile Development and Multiplicity Madness (34:30 minutes)
iPhone, BlackBerry, Symbian, WinMo, Android -- the world is awash in
smartphone platforms, and this fragmented landscape is a pain for
developers, who have to build an app four or five times in order to
reach all users, as well as enterprises, which have to pay for the work.
However, if the mobile browser world were to rally around WebKit, could
it be the answer to simplified mobile development?

Today's Story Highlights

EMC World 2009 - Traveling the Cloud's Byways
The recession's effects on technology budgets, corporate belt-tightening
and simple business survival have been well-documented, but less
attention has been paid to how IT industry client and developer
conferences can help end customers stabilize or even improve their
situations. Make no mistake -- the economy is affecting attendance and
participation at 2009 events.

Taking a Shine to iPhone in the Enterprise
While Apple's not exactly kicking down the corporate front door with its
Xserve platform, there is every indication that the iPhone is making
itself at home in the enterprise. Increasingly, the iPhone is becoming
the mobile device of choice for corporate types, and not because of its
sex appeal -- or at least not because of its sex appeal alone.

Email Receipts, Confirmations, Tracking Numbers - and Marketing
With consumers' inboxes perpetually filled with clutter, marketers are
challenged to find new ways to break through with valuable, targeted
messages that their customers actually want to open. The secret could
lie in a largely untapped vehicle: transactional emails. The historical
open rates of transactional emails hover around 70 percent because they
are, by nature, highly relevant.

E Ink Deal Could Hasten Kindle Color Display
E Ink, the maker of the innovative display for the Amazon Kindle e-book
reader, said Monday it has agreed to be acquired by a Taiwanese company
for $215 million. The buyer is Prime View International, which has been
Cambridge, Mass.-based E Ink's partner in making "electronic ink"
displays for Amazon.com and Sony.

Cisco Makes Itself at Home on the Dow
Miles per hour -- out. Bits per second -- in. Dow Jones & Co. said
Monday it would add Cisco Systems, the world's largest maker of computer
networking hardware, to the 30-stock industrial average, replacing
General Motors. The change takes effect June 8. The automotive giant
filed for bankruptcy protection Monday.

Google's E-Book Plans Could Diminish Amazon's Kindle Flame
Google said Monday that it plans to build an e-book service to make
electronic editions of mainstream titles available to consumers --
whether they own a specialized e-book reader or not. The service should
roll out by the end of the year, Google spokesperson Gabriel Stricker
told the E-Commerce Times.
