It's Time for IT to Look Inward (36:11 minutes)
In many enterprises, IT's role has traditionally been to help other
departments gain a better sense of their data, to help people and lines
of business integrate their systems, and to help optimize processes in
order to cut costs. In today's economy, though, IT needs to take a long
look in the mirror.

Today's Story Highlights

Kindle Case Could Crack Amazon's Customer Service Image
An unhappy Kindle customer is taking his grievance to court. Seattle
resident Matthew Geise bought the second-generation model of
Amazon.com's popular e-reader device, the Kindle 2 -- along with the
$29.99 Kindle Cover -- only to find that this protective covering was
anything but.

Mobile Software Firm Strikes While the Market Is Hot
On June 10, Antenna Software completed the acquisition of Dexterra for
an undisclosed amount, solidifying its position as a key player in the
mobile middleware/platform space, with a sharpened focus on field force
enablement. This market grab comes on the heels of Antenna's acquisition
of Vettro's strategic assets in November 2008.

The Upside of Losing Brand Control
There was a day not that long ago when companies actually controlled
their brands. Their marketing teams decided which messages their
consumers were going to see and hear. Companies decided which
publications, television shows and Web sites they wanted their ads to
appear in, and they limited their customer interactions to 800 numbers
and customer service counters with long queues.

How to Earn Your Customers' Loyalty
There's a saying in the business world: Customer acquisition is an
investment, but customer retention delivers profitability. So, how do
you retain your customers and earn their loyalty? It's like any
successful relationship: If you want customers to be loyal to you, you
must be loyal to them and demonstrate that loyalty.

Nokia Profit Plummets in Q2 as Cellphone Demand Declines
The world's top cellphone maker, Nokia, on Thursday said second-quarter
earnings fell 66 percent as the global recession sapped demand. The
company scrapped its target to gain market share this year and its stock
sagged. Net profit was $535 million, down from $1.6 billion in the same
period a year earlier.

Bad News for PC Sector Cushioned by Glimmer of Hope
Worldwide PC shipments will fall on a year-over-year basis for the first
time in nearly a decade, but all signs still point to a late-year tech
sector recovery, according to research firm iSuppli. Shipments will fall
4 percent from 2008 sales, to 287.3 million units, the firm predicted.
This is the latest -- and perhaps the most optimistic -- of several
research reports out lately.
