Virtualization, Consolidation and Modernization (24:28 minutes)
Consolidating modern equipment that takes advantage of virtualization
technology can help an enterprise deliver better services. It can also
help deliver better cost efficiencies. Advanced automated systems can
reduce energy consumption to boost the bottom line, and a shared

Today's Story Highlights

The Front Line of the E-Commerce Tax Battle: Update
There have been three significant developments affecting the tax battles
online travel companies have been fighting around the U.S. in recent
weeks, and none are positive for the OTC industry. The issue at the
heart of these tax controversies is whether the OTCs should be
collecting and remitting hotel room taxes on the full amount of the
price they charge their customers.

Tweeting From the Courtroom
Since its conception in 2006, Twitter has gained considerable notoriety
and publicity worldwide. The use of Twitter is also gaining popularity
in the legal sphere. Reporting via Twitter from the courtroom is the
fastest-growing trend in the coverage of the United States justice
system.

Mapping Out an Effective Online Customer Retention Strategy
In today's online environments, a bad customer experience can become
visible more quickly and have more lasting consequences than ever
before. More and more customer interactions are taking place online,
thanks to a combination of factors that make the Web an attractive place
for doing business. However, the same factors can also quickly turn
against an e-commerce company.

Poker Players Move In on Washington to Push for Online Betting
The Poker Players Alliance hopes a hot hand in the nation's capital this
week will help its efforts to legalize online poker. As part of its
"National Poker Week," the group has set up nearly 100 meetings with
members of Congress and their aides, and plans to present a petition to
President Barack Obama on Wednesday that had more than 350,000
signatures at last count.

VC Investments Take Nose Dive for Second Quarter in a Row
Venture capitalists cut their U.S. investments in half during the
spring, the second-consecutive quarter to mark a more than 50 percent
decline, leaving the money flowing to startups at the slowest trickle in
12 years. Nearly $3.7 billion poured into 612 venture-capital deals in
the three months ending in June.

Verizon Throws Bone to Smaller Rural Carriers
It is the dream for consumers who are tired of lusting after shiny new
smartphones that belong to somebody else's carrier; the ability to buy
any feature-rich phone from any device maker and tie it to any wireless
provider they choose -- exclusivity be damned. Frustrated consumers in
some rural areas of the country might be wondering if that day is
inching closer.
