It's Time for IT to Look Inward (36:11 minutes)
In many enterprises, IT's role has traditionally been to help other
departments gain a better sense of their data, to help people and lines
of business integrate their systems, and to help optimize processes in
order to cut costs. In today's economy, though, IT needs to take a long
look in the mirror.

Today's Story Highlights

Opportunity in China: A Guide for Online Merchants and Bar-Goers
In the wake of the global recession, more manufacturers than ever before
are turning to international e-commerce to find and attract new buyers.
As more and more China-based manufacturers raise their online profiles,
smaller merchants may be finding the temptation of huge profit margins
increasingly difficult to resist.

The SEC's Hard Look at Apple and Apple's Slow Boat to China
Public statements issued by Apple over the past year concerning the
health of CEO Steve Jobs may have caught the attention of federal

mislead investors with its statements? However, that is difficult to
prove, and it's counterbalanced by solid company performance.

Spectral Analysis
My ride from San Francisco Airport to Redwood Shores, Calif., tells the
story of my entire trip to the West Coast last week. Southbound on Route
101, traffic was lighter than I was accustomed to in my more than 10
years of visiting the area. Northbound, there was a five-mile backup,
which caused me to miss a meeting later on in the city.

Microsoft Tries Something New With Azure Pricing
Microsoft is taking a new pricing approach with its upcoming Windows
Azure cloud operating system: It will allow customers to pay on a per-
use basis rather than calculating license fees according to number of
processors or some other traditional measure.

Bing Pings Climb 8 Percent - Now What?
Roughly six weeks after launching its Bing search engine, Microsoft
proudly announced the number of unique hits to the site grew by 8
percent in June. This shows users are trying Bing and the word is
spreading, said Yusuf Mehdi, senior vice president of Microsoft's online
audience business group, who is leading the Bing charge.

Blockbuster Widens Online Movie Stream With Samsung Deal
Blockbuster and Samsung are partnering to bring the movie-rental chain's
digital streaming library to the electronics giant's televisions, home
theater systems and Blu-ray disc players. The owners of some existing
