It's Time for IT to Look Inward (36:11 minutes)
In many enterprises, IT's role has traditionally been to help other
departments gain a better sense of their data, to help people and lines
of business integrate their systems, and to help optimize processes in
order to cut costs. In today's economy, though, IT needs to take a long
look in the mirror.

Today's Story Highlights
Snapping Up Endangered Sales With On-Site Targeting
E-Commerce software allows the marketer to execute and record millions
in annual sales. However, in the era of direct digital marketing, online
retailers are seeking a solution that accomplishes more than the
expected sale. E-commerce software is able to secure sales of the "ripe
fruit" and some low-hanging fruit, on occasion. On-site targeting
accomplishes that as well -- and much more.

10 Tips for Boosting PPC Conversions
Pay per click advertising is a huge market. The model is especially
attractive to new companies that have not yet established themselves in
the organic search engine rankings. The downside is that making PPC pay
can be quite an exhausting and overwhelming task.

Automation: A Lube Job for a Sluggish Economy
Companies are now in the third stage of "economic downturn syndrome."
Having passed through Panic and Denial, they're firmly in Acceptance.
Panicky knee-jerk responses such as cost-cutting, layoffs, tightening
budgets and resources are a thing of the past. Most companies have had a
quick breather and segued to the stage of a more carefully considered
response.

ICANN Mulls Trademark Database to Stymie Cybersquatters
The Internet's key oversight agency is considering establishment of a
centralized database of trademark holders to cut down on questionable
registrations of new Internet addresses. Officials say the mechanism
won't preclude a new Web site from being created at, say,
"www.apple.farm" by someone outside Apple Inc. However, it would create
hurdles.

Firm Fights Feds to Unfreeze Online Poker Payments
A payment processor that handles the accounts of online poker players
wants a judge to order the return of about $14 million that the company
says was illegally seized by the federal government. Account Services of
San Diego made the request in a filing with a federal judge there
Friday.

Survey: 40 Percent of Businesses Ready to Roll With Windows 7
Though consumers won't be able to buy a copy of Windows 7 until October,
businesses will reportedly be able to order copies of the upcoming
operating system on Sept. 1. However, the OS doesn't look like it will
rake in money from the majority of businesses -- at least, not right
away.
