All in all, the new Prius excels

The first hybrid I drove was a Toyota Prius, and I was entranced by the dual power train. Starting out under electric power felt so futuristic. The Prius had me so impressed, I expected a lot from the 2010 model update. Toyota had five years to work on the car, so what would it come up with this time? Longer range electric drive? Plug-in capabilities? Certainly a cutting edge navigation and audio system. However, when the new 2010 model actually came in, it brought me back to the reality of automotive development. This car was an incremental improvement, not a radical new direction. Toyota designers must have been thinking, "why mess with success?" So after an honest, less pie-in-the-sky evaluation, the new Prius showed that yes, it is a better car than the one it replaces, with a more refined power train. Features have also been added to the cabin tech, but not all that I could have wanted. And you can't argue with the car's excellent mileage.
